There was a guy who sat next to me in my IB class. He was always sporting the classy emo look–thick-rimmed glasses, a dark coat, and a coffee mug. But he was clever, and funny. He made silly comments throughout class that made an hour of learning about “plants and their uses” tolerable.  He was easy-going and friendly, and I could tell that he was passionate about what he did in life.

And then he missed class for a week.  This was weird to me, because he didn’t seem like the type to skip class.

And then he wasn’t there during the exam we had on Monday.

And then I read the DI.

He had died on Friday.

It was from a  noncontagious disease that had been overlooked.

Sometimes, God, You just don’t make sense.
