Maybe this is why

Why do leaves change color in the fall?

Maybe it’s because all summer long you’ve taken those trees for granted.  Sure, maybe you were happy to see them bud out in the spring.  But after the flowers came along, you forgot about the trees.  And they were there all the time–you just kept pushing them into your peripheral vision.  You didn’t bother to say anything good about them all summer long.  They were big and green, and that’s about all you could say.

So in the fall, as they’re preparing to go dormant, they’ll make sure that you miss them when they’re gone.  It’s as if to say, “DAMMIT, I am awesome.  Even if you don’t always recognize it.  And I’ll make sure you notice me now.”

  1. Okay, so I’ve been pathetic and haven’t been reading any non-LJ blogs since… I don’t even remember.

I was walking around campus and saw some beautiful yellow leaves covering the ground. They made me think of you.
