Is it worth it?

On Saturday my family went to Indianapolis for a monster truck show.  A family friend and neighbor was one of the competitors in the show, so he gave us press box tickets.

My parents, my nephew, and I watched the show from behind the thick glass.  My nephew was bored, actually–it wasn’t loud up in the press boxes (thank goodness) and he could hardly see anything.

I don’t like these events.  There, I’ve said it.  I think it’s wasteful (and boring).  Crashing vehicles and barely jumping over RVs just doesn’t do it for me.  And just about every other competitor ends up flipping their monster truck over onto themselves.  It just makes me nervous.

The entire time I watched the event, I saw the safety crew members walk around these 600-pound beasts of a vehicle, dwarfed by the massive tires.  The only thing on my mind was how the drivers of the trucks could even see the crew members.

I closed my eyes and tried not to think about what could actually happen–but that same night in Madison, Wisconsin it had already (horribly) taken place.
