Last year this tree had terrible fire blight (a bacterial disease).  Fire blight is ruthless; its attack is so quick that the leaves wilt rapidly and turn dark brown without ever actually falling from the branch.  It can be devastating to apple and pear trees in the Midwest.

It is so refreshing to see this tree bounce back from the disease.  When I walk past these trees on campus, the scent of their blossoms tickles my nose; I can’t help but smile.

Things like this give me such a child-like hope.  If a tree can overcome a nasty bacterial disease and produce beautiful flowers the following spring, then certainly I can push through some of these setbacks that I’ve been having lately.  It might not be pretty right now, but soon I’ll blossom into what I’m really meant to be.
