How to: Rock at Life after Withdrawing from Grad School

Step 1:  Breathe a dozen sighs of relief.

Step 2: Tell friends.  They’ll be so happy for you.  Be sure to thank them for all their support this last year.  You wouldn’t have made it this far without them.

Step 3: Wait on the edge of your seat for a call back from the human resources department.

Step 4: Try to finish some homework.  But don’t stress about it.

Step 5: Breathe another sigh of relief.

Step 6: Be offered and accept that job from the education program in Chicago.

Step 7: Jump around the graduate student office with joy.

Step 9: Go home.  Tell friends.  Tell Facebook.  Tell twitter and tumblr and the entire world, duh.

Step 10: Complete a half-marathon before noon on a Saturday.  Better yet:  Finish under 3 hours (2:42 to be precise).

Step 11:  Drink celebratory beer.

Step 12:  Have a lazy Sunday.  Eat brunch, go to the movies, go shopping, and eat a yummy dinner with the boyfriend.

Step 13:  Rejoice.

Step 14:  Love life with a little more passion than you had one week ago.
